Sunshine, beach, relaxation and beautiful surroundings – how can it get any better? The Secrets Marquis Los Cabos Resort (all-inclusive, adults-only) on the Corridor between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas is a gem with a very relaxing upscale atmosphere. From the first glimpse of the ocean through the wonderfully-decorated archway lobby, with champagne and chocolate chip cookies offered during check-in, the attentive and friendly staff members made certain our stay was exemplary.
The suites were well-appointed and all offered an ocean view. One touch especially appreciated by a coffee-lover was the niche in each suite in which coffee, fruit and rolls were placed every morning. It magically appeared without a sound.
The resort offers several excellent restaurants with a variety of menu offerings and meals were well-prepared and beautifully presented. Poolside, drinks and light meals were available and served with embroidered cloth placemats and napkins and real glassware. Two infinity pools mimic the curve of the beach and seem to disappear off into the ocean. Another larger pool in which the daily water aerobics class is held resides at the bottom of a waterfall cascading from the lobby area. Other activities offered at various times included a cooking class, beach volleyball, archery and a poker night.
During our stay, we took a Land’s End Tour of San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas complete with a glass-bottom boat ride to “El Arco” (the Arch) at Land’s End where the Gulf of California meets the Pacific Ocean. Pelicans and seals enjoyed the area every bit as much as the people frolicking on the beaches and touring in pirate ships.
San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas offer a contrast for visitors. San Jose is a much more traditional Mexican city and centered around the government building and mission church located on the square (which is actually L-shaped), complete with the requisite gazebo. The area is replete with art galleries and small shops and restaurants. During our tour, we attended a tequila tasting and had the opportunity to try our hand - or breath - at glass-blowing in a glass-blowing factory. Cabo San Lucas is a modern city with an extensive new mall located on the marina in which are docked yachts from all over the world. However, there are also still the action-packed hideaways such as El Squid Roe and Cabo Wabo, and the market area.
Alas, our stay was over far too quickly!
